CONTEXT

Broad Community Connections (BCC)  is a community development organization devoted to building community power by investing in the health and economic, residential, and cultural development of Broad Street neighborhoods. Established in 2008, BCC aims to create a future where New Orleanians of all backgrounds can build power, wealth, health and lead fulfilling lives, regardless of their race or economic standing. We design programs and solutions that target these intersections and center community voices to build power block by block.

JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION: Full-Time/Hybrid

EXPERTISE: Community Economic Development 

PAY: $60k + benefits; potential to earn additional income

Broad Community Connections is seeking an experienced project manager or community economic development professional to co-plan, manage and implement community-driven equitable development programs & projects across the Broad Street neighborhoods of New Orleans. The right candidate will take an instrumental organizing role in a community economic development organization dedicated to building power on a block-by-block basis. We are looking for someone with 3-to-5 years who demonstrated strong managerial experience and technical skills, strategic thinking, and a commitment to social & economic  justice. This project manager will support the Executive Director shape the organization’s priorities and ambitious goals and translate those into high-impact, innovative, collaborative project work to advance BCC’s mission.

Qualified candidates will have experience working on three or more projects that serve, neighborhood and/or community planning, design and/or economic development projects, creating and executing complex work plans and building relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. These stakeholders may include community residents, neighborhood institutions, government agencies, and elected officials, among others. They will also have experience managing and collaborating with diverse project teams (including staff, contractors, interns, and volunteers). The Project Manager, Community Economic Development will lead planning, implementation, and evaluation of assigned program areas including managing coalitions of business owners and residents, multimedia and construction projects, small business support and housing anti-displacement initiatives. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manage designated projects such as small business organizing and technical assistance, events, research and data gathering, and other community economic development and placekeeping initiatives

  • Supervise all aspects of community economic development projects with the Broad Street neighborhoods;
  • Co-develop overall project approach that leverages opportunities for innovation and equity while also achieving project goals;
  • Guide planning, design and development technical work such as conducting neighborhood research studies, developing surveys, creating maps, gathering data and conducting site-specific and neighborhood-level analyses, developing innovative and actionable recommendations;
  • Develop strong working relationships with community-based organizations and government agencies;
  • Manage complex project teams made up of BCC staff and outside consultants – regularly connect project work with BCC’s larger mission and vision;
  • Effectively prioritize, delegate, execute and track tasks across multiple projects, adhering to rigorous timelines;
  • Center inclusive, accessible community engagement & opportunities for innovation in projects
  • Draw from research on innovative community development best practices to inform work.
  • Collect and analyze data to evaluate project outcomes and impact and prepare reports.
  • Cultivate relationships with partners and community stakeholders connected to projects.
  • Identify new funding opportunities, support grant writing, and resource development efforts for programs.
  • Communicate BCC’s approach and project experiences with a wide range of partners, contributing to the broader field/discourse.
  • Keep senior management and stakeholders informed of progress and recommendations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3-5 years experience successfully managing projects, preferably in a nonprofit setting
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfortable managing multiple priorities and stakeholders
  • Strong facilitation and public speaking skills
  • Passion for community development and working with diverse communities
  • Bachelor's degree required; project management certification a plus
  • Proficiency with the programs we use – Google Suite (Sheets, Docs, & Slides);
  • Fluency in a language other than English is a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Personal vehicle required for local work- related travel.
  • Ability to occasionally work during weekends (on special occasions)
