CONTEXT

Broad Community Connections (BCC)  is a community development organization devoted to building community power by investing in the health and economic, residential, and cultural development of Broad Street neighborhoods. Established in 2008, BCC aims to create a future where New Orleanians of all backgrounds can build power, wealth, health and lead fulfilling lives, regardless of their race or economic standing. We design programs and solutions that target these intersections and center community voices to build power block by block.

JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION: Full-Time/Hybrid

COMPENSATION: $60k + benefits; potential to earn additional income 

Broad Community Connections is seeking an experienced  brand builder or communications professional to oversee and execute both internal and external communications initiatives to support the organization's community-driven equitable development programs & projects across the Broad Street neighborhoods of New Orleans. We are looking for someone with 3-to-5 years with demonstrated strong managerial experience in marketing, public relations, communications and/or developing fundraising language to lead  and execute both internal and external communications initiatives

‍Communication Manager (CM) is an extraordinary storyteller, leading the development and implementation of the organization's brand voice, conveying it through analog and digital media, resource development, and community engagement. Their work includes creating and managing BCC’s media presence (ie writing press releases, managing website, social media and newsletters), supporting resource development efforts (i.e. writing grants, managing grant reports, and creating presentation materials) and supporting BCC programs and initiatives (i.e. co-creating, marketing, and documenting programs and events). Overall, CM is responsible for the successful development, execution, monitoring and closure of multiple communications related-projects, demonstrating excellent verbal and written communications skills. They play a key role as organization leaders. CM helps the Executive Director shape the organization’s priorities and ambitious goals and translate those into high-impact, innovative, collaborative communications work to advance BCC’s mission.

Qualified candidates will have experience leading and producing major marketing campaigns for companies and/organizations, written grant applications, and identify, manage, and encourage  engagement with our target audiences. They will also have experience managing and collaborating with diverse project teams (including staff, contractors, interns, and volunteers).

The Communications Manager will lead, plan, execute and evaluate both internal and external communications initiatives including creating organization’s communications standards, supporting donor and funder engagement, and implementing strategy for increasing awareness of our organization, its programs and initiatives.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manage designated internal and external projects such as co-developing and implementing the communications strategy, focusing BCC brand voice and standards, and supporting resource development through grant writing and funder/donor management.

  • Co-develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy that encompasses fundraising, marketing, public relations, events, and stakeholder outreach
  • Co-lead resource and fund development activities such as grant writing and reporting, fundraising campaigns and events, intern and volunteer recruitment
  • Co-develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy that encompasses fundraising, marketing, public relations, events, and stakeholder outreach

  • Co-generate, manage and review content to best convey organization’s goals & activities  (i.e. presentations, concept notes, blogs)
  • Co-develop communications budgets and provide fiscal oversight for department spending
  • Actively pitch story ideas about the organization to local, regional and national media outlets as appropriate.
  • Oversee marketing and public relations activities including media relations, social media, website, newsletters, advertising, etc.
  • Generate, manage and review content for organization’s public-facing website and platforms, updating with fresh content on a regular basis.
  • Develop and implement a newsletter strategy for internal and external audiences. 
  • Support organization events including groundbreakings, fundraising galas, community forums, speaking appearances, etc.  
  • Monitor effectiveness of communications efforts and provide regular analytics reports to leadership
  • Build strong relationships with donors, foundations, government agencies, corporations, and other funding sources  
  • Manage any external vendors, agencies, or consultants supporting communications activities
  • Serve as lead media contact and spokesperson as needed
  • Recruit, train, manage and motivate staff and volunteers in BCC brand voice
  • Keep leadership and board informed of all major communications initiatives and issues

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3-5 years experience in marketing, public relations, communications and/or fundraising
  • Supervisory and management experience required  (preferably in a nonprofit setting)
  • Creative, strategic, and analytical thinker 
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfortable managing multiple priorities and stakeholders
  • Passion for community development and working with diverse communities
  • Bachelor's degree required; project management certification a plus
  • Proficiency with the programs we use – Google Suite (Sheets, Docs, & Slides);
  • Proficiency with design software such as Adobe (Photoshop, InDesign & Illustrator)
  • Fluency in a language other than English is a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Personal vehicle required for local work- related travel.
  • Ability to occasionally work during weekends (on special occasions)
