Katrina Day of Service

On Saturday, August 29th, Broad Community Connections led a group of 125 volunteers to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of Hurricane Katrina with a 'Green the Greenway' initiative to paint a mural and pick up trash in the almost-open Lafitte Greenway. Working with the Friends of Lafitte Greenway, the Trust for Public Land, JPMorgan Chase, and a number of community groups and volunteers, over 20 gallons of paint were used to create a 150'-long mural, including a chalk paint line at the level of Katrina's flooding on which community members and passersby can write their thoughts, memories, and hopes for the future. Additionally, working with NOLA Trash Mob and led by the Friends of Lafitte Corridor, volunteers picked up over 1300 pounds of trash out of the Greenway and surrounding communities.
