Greetings from the ReFresh Community Farm Collective!
Hello to all and thank you for the massive community support that we have experienced so far in creating a space where neighborhood folks can come learn to grow food and be connected with a space to grow for themselves! First of all, we would like to introduce our collaborative members and give an update on what is happening with the on-site garden space.
SPROUT NOLA is coordinating our community farm programming and operating an on-site educational space that will be located at the corner of Dorgenois and Bienville Streets. Through this program, community members will have the opportunity to learn the basics of sustainable urban gardening and be matched with a space to grow a garden for themselves in their backyards, in community gardens located throughout the city, or at the ReFresh Project site itself. SPROUT NOLA looks to foster community gardening on-site and provide ongoing resources to those interested in maintaining these spaces.
In addition to SPROUT NOLA, Harambee Gardens and Faubourg Farms are collective members of the ReFresh Community Farm as well. Harambee Gardens will be coordinating children's programming and operating a production-style herb garden on-site. Faubourg Farms grows food in straw bales and will have a demonstration garden and programming developed around growing in these bales, which are affordable as well as mobile.
Secondly, we would like to thank all of those community members who came out to support the community farm construction at our fundraiser on February 9th at Chickie Wah Wah. The event was a great success, raising over $3000 for the construction costs of the farm. We had a great time and are honored to be a part of this community that so actively supports health and wellness!
We are looking to break ground on the farm site very soon and would love for anyone to come by and check us out! Please feel free to stop out on the space any time if you see any of us working out there as this is a community space and all are welcome to participate. If you are looking for more information about the progress of the site or just want to chat, you can contact www.sproutnola.org or visit the Broad Community Connections website at www.broadcommunityconnections.
